Toothy Pigs

I needed some teeth to experiment on, so this morning I collected my pig’s head and took out its teeth.

I got it from Wellbeloved butchers shop in Deptford (which is probably the best butchers shop in the world)

pig_head2He looks happy. Little does he know…

The butcher removed the ears and cheeks for me.

cheeks4I took off the snout and as much of the soft bits as I could and into the oven he went with a load of water and covered in tin foil. Pigs have very fat heads.

haed_oven1Once he’d been in there for about 4 hours the rest of the meaty stuff pretty much fell off, apart from the eyes and snouty bits which were pulled out with a fork.

postroast1The front teeth came out really easily but the rest needed boiling before they could be wiggled out with a pair of pliers.

After a bit of scraping and pulling and scrubbing… Voila!
